John F. Doyle has served for the past 15 months as United States Magistrate for
the District of Columbia. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and was admitted to the Bar
of the District of Columbia in 1946. He is 53 years of age. He has previously been
engaged in the private practice of law in the District of Columbia and for years, immediately
preceding his appointment of Magistrate, served as Assistant General Counsel of the
United States Catholic Conference. In the past he has served for 6 years as Assistant
United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, first as a Prosecutor in the Criminal
Division and later as Chief of the Civil Division of that Office. For 4 years he was an
Assistant Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia assigned to the General
Litigation Section of that Office. He is a member of the Bar Association of the District of
Columbia and of the American Bar Association. He holds an AB degree from Rockhurst
College in Kansas City, Missouri, and an LL.B Degree from Georgetown University
School of Law. He has twice been Lecturer in Evidence of Catholic University Law School.
He is a combat veteran of World War II and a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States
Marine Corps Reserve. He is married to Mary Sanford Doyle.
